Still Podcasting

I like podcasting because I like talking. I enjoy discussing American politics because I’m an opinionated American (shocking, I know). But I hate the marketing part. If you don’t tell people you have a podcast, why record a podcast? I could just call Laura, my podcasting cohort, weekly and bitch about politics over the phone.

I podcast so history will know I wasn’t an asshole. I record weekly because I fear that soon, podcasting will be censored. I publicly speak not to change MAGA, but to give words to their friends and family when Trump screws them over. Someone will need to reprogram them when they realize what they agreed to by voting for a sociopath.

I will try to be more consistent in posting updates about the pod. The last time I wrote about America Has Fallen, we had 6 installments under our belt. This week, we recorded our 27th episode, so yeah, we suck at posting.

The good news is that it takes a while to get comfortable recording, and fortunately for you, we publish audio podcasts, not videos. I still edit the hell out of each episode because, why not? Do you really want to sit through two hundred uhms, likes, and stutters along with dead air and cross-talk? Or do you want the gist of the information so you can move on?

If we simply spoke for an hour each week and hit ‘publish,’ trust me – you’d be annoyed. By editing, I can trim out the fat and keep it tight. Are all of our stories and asides funny? Heck yeah. Do you need to hear all of them? Hell no.

You’re welcome.

I thought I’d go back in time and create posts and links re: every podcast we’ve published. It’ll take a while to get them all listed, but honestly, it’s the right thing to do. We discuss influencers, books, films, television, politicians, ideas, science, medicine, and more. Because they add value to our conversations, it’s essential to show them some love by linking to them and giving them the credit they deserve.

Sometimes I’ll be posting. Other times, Laura will take the helm.

May 13th, Episode 7 was titled The Magical Mystery Pod.” When Laura and I recorded it, Felon 47 was approaching his 100th day in office, and frankly, we needed a break from talking about MAGA. We discussed how intuition played a crucial role in past decisions, with things often working to our advantage, which led us to wonder. Could instinct alone help Americans survive this daily insanity?  Because no matter how badly MAGA wants to turn America into a shity, Christian Nationalist nation, they can’t take from us our desire to stay curious and look for the mysteries available at all times.

May 20th, Episode 8 was titled Left and Liking It.” We discussed why we became Democrats and stayed with the party. Reflecting on personal experiences that shaped us politically, we shared the individual and community values that keep us in the party and influence how we vote.

Reggie Steele said it best when it comes to the differences between Democrats and Republicans: “Democrats will feed one hundred people out of fear that one person may starve. Republicans will not feed one hundred people for fear that one person doesn’t deserve it”.

Honestly, no matter how often the Democrats let me down, that is the fundamental reason that I stick with the party.

May 27th, Episode 9 was called, “Dissing The Dems” because we don’t love everything about our party. Here at AHF, we’re equal opportunity complainers. MAGA policies and behaviors might be crazy, but we have real discontent with the Democratic Party as well. It’s only fair that we complain just as loudly about those we vote for because WE’RE NOT IN A CULT, and also, that’s how democracy works.

June 3rd, Episode 10 was about Republicans and Reverse Ring Theory. I’m a big fan of Carolyn Hax, the daily advice columnist at The Washington Post. That’s where she first learned about the comfort-in, dump-out theory, created by clinical psychologist Susan Silk and her friend, writer and mediator Barry Goldman. Maybe we’re crazy, but here at America Has Fallen, it’s disturbing how often Republicans do the opposite. They dump-in and comfort-out because God forbid, the millions of white, straight, cis, male, healthy Christians are ever uncomfortable.

June 10th, Episode 11 was called Virgin Births and Vanishing Dads because you can’t discuss abortion laws without mentioning the hypocrisy of never demanding fathers be responsible for the children the GOP forces women to give birth to.

In “Orange You Glad They Can’t Shoot Back” (Episode 12, published on June 17th), we explored the hypothetical scenario of whether Trump would ever ban guns and the implications of such a decision. We discussed the nature of autocracy, the relationship between economic hardship and potential violence, and the ongoing debate between public safety and gun rights. The conversation also touched on the responsibility of gun ownership, comparative gun control laws in other countries, and the narrative surrounding gun ownership in America.

Before Pride Month came to a close, Laura and I celebrated Gay Pride, exploring its evolution and significance, as well as the power of visibility and representation within the LGBTQ+ community. They shared personal stories, the impact of pride parades on identity, and the role of allies in the fight for equality.

In this episode, Laura asked a brilliant question: If Dick Cheney can’t make his daughter straight, how the fuck does she have the power to turn your child gay? Seriously? What’s the deal, Republicans? Your theories and scare tactics don’t make any sense.

The conversation also highlighted the importance of acceptance and understanding in a world that continues to challenge LGBTQ+ rights. Born This Waycast aired on Jun 24th and was our 13th episode.

  1. Which platform do you use for editing the podcast? I am launching one next month and want to do it myself instead of paying someone, but I need EASY.

I’m so sorry – I never saw your comment. I use Riverside. It took me a couple months to figure it out but you can edit from the transcript and the audio. It also has great AI features to do a lot for you. Again, sorry for the delay. If you have other questions let me know.
      Cheers
