The Resistance Begins

In this week’s America Has Fallen Podcast (Season 2, Episode 2), Laura notes that no response is often the best response. Although we enjoy venting on the pod and sharing clips on social media, online silence can starve the algorithm. It turns out that old-school blogging and curating an email list allow us to share our thoughts without necessarily feeding the beast.

There are two algorithms at play that serve distinct intents: relevance/authority (search engines) vs. engagement/connection (social media). To be clear, our intention behind starting the America Has Fallen Podcast was to inform, not entertain. If we make you giggle while doing it, so be it, but our motto is substance over silliness.

If you use social media as your news source, you’re using the “keep them entertained, engaged, and connected” algorithm, not the “provide the most relevant, authoritative answers to specific queries” algorithm. So silence on social media, even if it’s meant to counter disinformation, stops the spread of said disinformation. Whereas increasing the silliness, although great for like-minded engagement and clicks, is bad for getting the substance to those who need to hear it.

Being part of the Resistance means posting more on this blog. I’ve spent a lot of time here this week, and not only has it reignited my love of writing, but I’m also learning how to engage properly. What we do here MIGHT matter more in the end.

Welcome to our Resistance.

Think of the blog as a newspaper, podcasting as an old-timey, fireside radio chat, with social media acting as the town crier. We need to use all three if we want to make a difference. We can’t record often enough to stay current because the Trump Regime is excellent at inundating the system. Besides, here, we have space to share information and link to those featured in our episodes.

I’ve also learned that collecting email addresses, as we did in the early aughts, allows for direct engagement that an algorithm can’t manipulate. In essence, we can be more strategic with our disgust and disappointment and not get cancelled by the oligarchs running everything. Lucky for us, we created this blog on WordPress. (WordPress.org is a free, community-driven project, with WordPress.com being the commercial service built on it by Automattic.)

So that’s the plan. Record a little. Write a little. Market a little. See what’s what, then adjust. It’s looking like 2026 is going to be a shit show. If you, too, are determined to save democracy, join us by liking and subscribing to The America Has Fallen Podcast and Blog. Share our content on social media. Forward our stuff via email or text.

Most importantly, engage with us. What’s working with you and the MAGA people in your life? Do they have a personal tipping point that breaks the spell, or are they continuing to blindly follow Trump, no matter what? Are conversations with MAGA getting easier or harder? What’s your favorite way to fight for democracy?

This week’s episode asks: How do we effectively resist? How do we engage the opposition? At this point, does any common ground even exist between MAGA and Anti-Trumpers? We discussed Toby Morton, the former South Park writer who buys URLs and creates resistance websites. He famously registered the Trump Kennedy Center domain before Trump could get his grubby little hands on it. Venmoing Mr. Morton helps him maintain all of his sites.

Sully Dawg is also doing great work, educating the masses one solo cup at a time. Whether it’s tariffs, trade wars, or Venezuela, he has shareable, simple videos that break it all down. He’s on every platform —follow, like, share, or subscribe because, as he likes to say, “The cups don’t lie — and neither do I.”

As we embark on 2026 in Trump’s shitty version of America, join us as we figure out ways to slow Lady Liberty’s descent into fascism. Although they can’t kill all of us, it doesn’t mean they won’t try.

Stay safe out there.

And finally, now that we’re going old-school, I can’t get this Miley Cyrus banger from 2013 outta my head. For every cult member still kissing Trump’s ass and falling for his bullshit, remember this: Nothing screams All-American like someone standing up to the man.

It’s our Founding Fathers Goddamn origin story and the stereotype we’re most proud of, be them real Americans or Hollywood creations: Harriet Tubman, The Lone Ranger, Muhammad Ali, Erin Brokovich, Butch Cassidy, Norma Rae, Mother Jones, Upton Sinclair, Katniss Everdeen, Rosa Parks, Neo, Malcolm X, and Jesus himself, for Christ’s sake, just to name a few.

The hypocrisy and cultic dissonance of the Republican Party is exhausting. But hey, don’t you worry ’bout me. Imma be okay. Cause while they’re blowing smoke up everyone’s asses, Imma do my thang.
