We’re The Worst

The first step is admitting that we’re assholes.

We’re assholes.

We (Laura and I ) should’ve been posting here all of last year, but we got lost in the “push your content on social media because it’s all about the algorithm” POV.

Honestly, I like writing a lot more than creating graphics and a little more than podcasting, because my writing tends to be grammatically correct as compared to my spontaneous speech. It also helps that a red line appears when I write, pointing out misspellings and dangling participles.

Organic conversation is messy and lends itself to disasters and do-overs, whereas writing allows you the time and space to perfect your prose. Now that we’re entering the free speech is at risk portion of the Trump Regime, perhaps writing more is smarter? Or dumber, since it’s evidence that can be printed out and used against us in a court of law.

But hey, Laura’s a lawyer…

We spent all of 2025 complaining and asking whether now that America had fallen, would she ever get up?

Sometimes it felt like she might rise. Although battered and bruised, we really thought she might climb back up onto her base to strategically guard the entrance to New York Harbor, welcoming immigrants with her symbolism of freedom and opportunity.

But by the end of the year, we were exhausted from getting our hopes up only to be let down by every branch of government. And as we enter 2026 and the Trump Regime’s second year, honestly, it’s not looking good. We’re only eight days in, and the following has happened:

  • Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his Celia Flores were captured and flown to the US.
  • The shutdown clock started ticking again in Congress
  • Trump signed an executive order suspending U.S. support and participation for 66 international organizations, many of which were tied to the U.N. system, as part of a broader pullback from multilateral engagement.
  • Trump proposed a massive increase in defense spending—$1.5 trillion in 2027—arguing it’s needed for “dangerous times.”
  • The administration doubled down on its intent to “take over” Greenland.
  • There were major changes to the US Food Pyramid, with parts baffling many nutritionists as it emphasizes high amounts of red meat and saturated fat, contradicting decades of nutritional science.
  • The CDC revised the U.S. childhood vaccine schedule without any independent review, upsetting many public health and infectious disease experts.
  • An ICE officer killed a woman in Minneapolis, sparking protests and vigils in Minneapolis and drawing national attention to enforcement tactics under the current immigration crackdown.

Therefore, we decided it’s time to complain less, resist more, and discuss ways to save our democracy before it’s too late.

Also, it’s time to once and for all figure out how to communicate with the MAGA members in our lives. Clearly, providing them with verifiable facts hasn’t worked. Apparently, we’re supposed to be more welcoming and less obvious with our disgust and confusion, which then begs the question: Should you be nice, kind, or polite when talking politics with a Triple Trumper?

Those are a few things Linda talked about in the first episode of Season 2.

Happy New Year. Hope you’re ready. We think it’s going to be a bonkers year.

In this episode, Linda reflects on the uncertainty of the new year and on the pod's evolution from a mere place to vent to a part of the Resistance. Knowing if someone is nice, kind, or polite when talking politics is a good first step.
